Places to visit in Madrid

Places to visit in Madrid

Madrid is The capital of Spain has a population of around 5 million people. Situated in the center of Peninsula Iberia it has a strategic location, although it is surrounded by nothing but hills and small mountains. The climate is sub-tropical, dry and warm almost the whole years. However these are just figures and facts that could not charm us, that’s why we have to see Madrid to understand its magic and brilliance. This article will try to present you why this city is so special.

why this city is so special

The city center is one of the things that I love most of Madrid. It has many faces, which combine aristocracy of the capital, glamour of the big city, the ancient spirit and small curving streets and of course the modern appearance. No matter at what time you walk around Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, plaza de Santa Ana and Gran Via there will be many people. With night buses running everyday Madrid city center is alive all the time. And in fact, most people say that the city is much more exciting when you walk around the illuminated buildings during the night.

All this is perfect incentive for a great nightlife and indeed there’s such one. With amazing discos such as Pacha, famous for its other club in Ibiza but the quality of music and service is as high, Kapital – seven floors with seven different styles of music is always promising a great night and many others that will not mention now. Moreover, near Plaza del Sol there are a lot of small bars and clubs that often offer you a free drink in order to invite you to check the music and the atmosphere inside. Don’t be shy and go drink for free. Actually, you can change 5 or more clubs getting a free shot at everyone until you like some and stay there, none will tell you anything about leaving after having the free drink.

Madrid is a perfect place to do Shopping

Furthermore, Madrid is a perfect place to do some shopping. The streets starting from Puerta del Sol are excellent for such activity. I recommend going up at Treka barrio and also along Fuencarral Street, there are many brand shops and other niche ones that would fulfill your needs for both clothing and souvenirs.

Cultural Places to visit in Madrid :

Of course the most important part when visiting Madrid is the cultural one. There are many monuments, museums and places to be seen. For sure you have to visit the old looking part of the city – La Latina and then maybe continue your journey to the Palacio Real. Another must see places are Parque de Retiro, Plaza de Cibeles- the place where Real Madrid celebrates their titles, Plaza de Neptuno- where Atletico Madrid celebrates, Puerta de Alcala, Al Campo parque, museum of Reina Sofia, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Espana and Plaza de Colon. All these places will charm you.

Places to eat in Madrid

Another great thing of the capital of Spain is that if you research a little bit more you may save a lot of money. For example to have lunch there are many places offering a “menu del dia” for 9-10 Euros. This menu includes first meal – usually you can choose between Gazpacho, Paella or a salad, the second meal- fish, chicken, beef or pork are usually available. Moreover, you also get a drink with the menu, bread, sometimes they serve free olives and at last you may choose between dessert and a coffee.

The best thing is that you don’t have the feeling that the restaurant is trying to save a little bit from that and from this. The service and the meal are great and for 10 euro you can have more than decent lunch. The night menu is pretty much the same but costs around 15. To get such menus we recommend the restaurants around plaza de Santa Ana and Plaza Mayor.

As we said there’s much that could be said for Madrid but it’s better to visit it and see/feel everything in live.  A trip that lasts 6 or 7 days will be enough to enjoy the best of this amazing place.

To give you a helping hand, I’ve put together a bit of information about some of the landmarks that I feel are particularly worth your attention upon arriving in the city on an airport transfer . Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago Art and culture lovers will certainly be in their element when visiting the city and, although there are dozens of museums and galleries to explore, I think the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is really worth visiting.
